Dr. Heidi Thompson is a highly skilled and compassionate professional dedicated to improving emotional wellbeing for children, families, and adults. Heidi has worked across diverse settings, including the NHS, Social Services, school and private practice, bringing a wealth of knowledge, experience and expertise to her clients.
Heidi specialises in identifying the factors that influence emotional health and developing tailored interventions for individuals and groups. Her work draws particularly on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and third-wave therapeutic approaches. She is deeply committed to trauma-informed practice, creating safe, supportive environments where individuals can feel psychologically secure and able to grow. As a mother, Heidi also has a strong interest in how early experiences shape our emotional development throughout life.
Her clinical career includes roles at leading institutions such as Great Ormond Street Hospital, the Maudsley Hospital, and Bethlem Royal Hospital. In these settings, she has worked with complex presentations including PTSD, OCD, depression, and anxiety. Heidi is trained in both CBT and EMDR, and has extensive experience supporting individuals with trauma-related difficulties.
Alongside her clinical work, Heidi has contributed to the training of future psychologists through supervision and teaching roles, including work with University College London (UCL).
Outside of her professional role, Heidi enjoys a range of active hobbies and has a personal interest in the mind-body connection. She values the role of movement and activity in supporting emotional wellbeing, whether as a way to reset, create routine, or take a restorative ‘brain break’.
With warmth, expertise, and a strong commitment to mental health, Dr. Heidi Thompson is dedicated to empowering individuals and families to help them overcome challenges and build emotional resilience.
Heidi holds a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Plymouth University, a Master of Arts in Psychoanalytic Studies from Sheffield University, and a PGDip in CBT with children and adolescents from Kings College London.
