Young People
Support for young people navigating life's challenges.
The teenage years can bring lots of changes. Alongside growing independence, there can be pressures linked to school, friendships, family relationships, social media, identity, and future plans.
Sometimes things can start to feel overwhelming, difficult to manage, or simply not how you’d like them to be.
Therapy provides a confidential, supportive space to talk about what’s going on, make sense of your experiences, and find helpful ways forward. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, anger, low mood, confidence, relationships, or something that feels difficult to put into words, we can work together to understand what’s happening and identify the support that feels right for you.
We aim to create a safe and accepting space where you feel listened to, understood, and supported.
How we work
We begin with 1-2 initial sessions (60 minutes each) to develop an understanding of what has been happening for you and what support might be most helpful.
This includes:
- Exploring what is currently feeling difficult
- Understanding how these difficulties may have developed
- Identifying what may be keeping things going
- Recognising strengths, interests, and sources of support
- Thinking about what you would like to be different
This stage helps ensure that support is tailored to your individual needs.
Formulation & Personalised Plan
Following our initial meeting(s), we use the information we have discussed to develop a shared understanding of your experiences and agree a personalised plan.
This provides a clear direction for therapy and helps us focus on the things that matter most to you.
Therapeutic Support
We use a range of evidence-based approaches depending on your needs, including:
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
- Solution-Focused Therapy
- EMDR (where indicated)
Sessions are adapted to suit you as an individual. Some young people find it helpful to focus on understanding their thoughts and feelings, while others prefer practical strategies and tools. Most find a mixture of both works well.
Is this for you?
You don’t need to be in crisis to come to therapy. Many young people seek support simply because things feel harder than they would like them to be.
This service may be helpful if you:
- Often feel anxious, worried, stressed, or overwhelmed
- Have been getting angry quickly and/or ending up in conflict more frequently
- Have been feeling low or struggling to enjoy things as much as you used to
- Find yourself overthinking or getting stuck in unhelpful patterns
- Are having difficulties with confidence or self-esteem
- Are finding friendships, family relationships, or social situations challenging
- Are coping with a significant change, loss, or difficult experience
- Feel stuck and would like support to move forward
- Would like a space to talk openly with someone outside of your family, school, or friendship group
What we can help with
We support young people experiencing a range of emotional and psychological difficulties, including:
- Anxiety
- Low mood or depression
- Anger and emotional regulation difficulties
- School avoidance or attendance concerns
- OCD, panic, and phobias
- Trauma or PTSD
- Grief and loss
- Bullying
- Social media and online challenges
- Friendship and relationship difficulties
- Confidence and self-esteem difficulties
- Adjusting to family, school, or life changes
If any of these sound like you, therapy could help.
Outcome
Our aim is not simply to reduce the current distress, but to help young people recognise their strengths, build confidence in their ability to cope, and develop skills that will support their wellbeing long after therapy has ended. We hope they leave therapy feeling better equipped to face challenges, make meaningful choices, and move forward with greater self-belief.
